WHAT IS PASHMINA

Pashmina refers to a type of fine cashmere wool and the textiles made from it.The name comes from Pashmine made from Urdu and Persian pashm ("wool"). The wool comes from changthangi or pashmina goat, which is a special breed of goat indigenous to high altitudes of the Himalayas in Nepal and northern India. Pashmina shawls are hand spun, woven and embroidered in Kashmir, and made from fine cashmere fibre.

Pashmina is the traditional name for the very finest grade of cashmere wool. Because of its unique softness and comforting warmth, it is the finest, softest, and warmest wool available anywhere. A luxurious pashmina shawl is the perfect fashion accessory for any season, event or occasion! You will feel as great as you look and a fashionable pashmina shawl is the perfect finishing touch to almost any outfit.

Pashmina is often inaccurately described as the highest quality of cashmere.  In fact there is no difference between cashmere and pashmina.  The highest quality of pashmina is the highest quality of cashmere, and the lowest pashmina is the lowest cashmere.  Pashmina and cashmere refer to the same thing.  The raw material comes from Tibet and Inner Mongolia.

As pashmina grows in popularity and is appreciated by more and more people around the world, standards have fallen.  To keep up with the world's demand, most pashmina shawls are now woven with very low grade pashmina, and most are no longer made on the traditional hand loom.
Pashmina and merino wool blended yarns are commonly exported as pure pashmina.
